It looks like Toni Gonzaga will be flying to New York next year to begin filming her new movie, “Asian Persuasion”.
It was recently revealed that the actress will be working with Tony Award-winner, Jhett Tolentino in the new movie, and will play the lead actress opposite Filipino-American star Dante Basco.
Toni is set to play Avery, “a beautiful and stylish Asian-American who owns a fashion design business in the Lower East Side.”
Avery is also described to be the opposite of the slacker character Mickey, played by Dante, and is very organised and career-driven. She is responsible and a loving mother.
On the other hand, Dante’s character is revealed to be an Asian-American who owns a run-down coffee shop in Queens.
“He was once an aspiring fine-dining chef whose culinary dreams and ambitions were derailed by self-doubt and depression following his parents’ sudden death during his senior year in college. He is a great dad to his daughter but is generally a slacker in all other aspects of his life,” the character description read.
On the other hand, the premise of the movie read, “Following a poorly negotiated divorce settlement, Mickey is saddled with alimony payments that he simply cannot afford. To avoid paying, he comes up with a scheme, with the help of his best friend Caspian, to get ex-wife Avery remarried by creating a fake online dating profile for her. He finds Lee, a potential suitor from the dating site, and coaches Lee on how to make Avery fall for him. Everything goes smoothly until Mickey’s plot backfires on him. He rushes to clean up his act to win Avery back. He might be too late.”
The movie will begin filming in New York in the summer of 2022.
