Erik Matti’s sequel to his “On the Job” film is set to compete at this year’s Venice International Film Festival.
The news was shared by the filmmaker on Instagram on 26 July, revealing that the movie, titled, “On the Job 2: The Missing 8” is one of the 21 entries selected for the festival’s main section and the only Filipino movie to be nominated.
Lead star John Arcilla also expressed happiness with the good news, telling ABS-CBN News, “I am very proud that we were recognised by a prestigious festival that is considered one of the four biggest global festivals.”
“It is heartwarming that we meet the standards of Venice! I am also happy for my director, Erik Matti, and producer, Dondon Monteverde,” he said.
In the sequel, John Arcilla portrays Sisoy, a journalist who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his colleagues and gets caught in a web of crime and political intrigue. Dennis Trillo plays a prisoner who is temporarily freed to carry out assassinations. The movie also stars Christopher de Leon, Dante Rivero, Lotlot De Leon, and Andrea Brillantes.
The 78th Venice International Film Festival will run from 1 to 11 September 2021.
