Aamir Khan and filmmaker wife Kiran Rao recently announced that they are splitting after 15 years of marriage.
The couple released a joint-statement recently, saying that they will continue to work together as parents to their son Azad Rao Khan as well as partners on their many projects as well as their Paani Foundation.
The statement continued, “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”
They also admitted to have been separated some time ago, and are comfortable to formalise the arrangement.
“A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about this evolution in our relationship, and without whom we would not have been so secure in taking this leap. We request our well wishers for good wishes and blessings, and hope that – like us – you will see this divorce not as an end, but as the start of a new journey,” it added.
Aamir and Kiran first met while working on the set of “Lagaan” – Aamir as its lead actor and first-time producer, while Kiran as assistant director. They tied the knot in December 2005 and have a son, Azad.
On the other hand, Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta, of whom he has two children – Junaid and Ira.
