British actor Rupert Evans has recently been cast in season 2 of the hit Netflix Regency Era series, “Bridgerton”.
The actor, most known for his role in “Charmed”, will be playing the role of the Bridgerton patriarch, Edmund, who is also a major influence in son Anthony’s life.
While the actor is currently slated for one episode – presumably in flashbacks seeing that his character has already passed away in the present day, his appearance might also mean that Evans could be a part of the upcoming spin-off of the series exploring on the young Queen Charlotte.
It was previously reported that the spin-off will also feature the romance between Violet and Edmund at their young age.
In an Instagram post about the casting, Evans wrote, “Growing my sideburns, as I speak…. Thanks to [Shondaland] – looking forward to joining the Bridgerton clan…”
It is noted that prior to Evans’ casting, some fans have noted on how he eerily resembles actress Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton in the said series – a similarity that even the actor acknowledged.
The second season will focus on Anthony Bridgerton – the first born of the said family – and his quest for a bride. According to the Julia Quinn book “The Viscount Who Loved Me” of which season 2 is based on, Edmund’s death at age 38 from an allergic reaction to a bee sting had a profound impact on Anthony.
Season 2 cast additions include female lead Simone Ashley, who plays Kate Sharma; Charithra Chandran, who plays Edwina Sharma, as well as Rupert Young (Jack), Shelley Conn (Mary Sharma) and Calam Lynch (Theo Sharpe).
