Although it seems that Anne Hathaway is as much Andrea Sachs as Andrea Sachs is Anne Hathaway, the actress recently revealed that she was never the first choice to play the lead in the 2006 film, “The Devil Wears Prada”.
The actress recently shocked contestants of VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” upon being asked by one of them whether she had to fight tooth and nail for a role, telling them that she was the ninth choice for the role of the hit movie.
“But I got it. Hang in there, never give up,” the actress said.

In a 2016 interview to celebrate the said movie’s tenth anniversary, Hathaway revealed she got the role by leaving Carla Hacken, then an executive vice president of Fox 2000, a message by tracing the words “hire me” in the sand of a Zen garden and left it for the businesswoman to discover.
“I didn’t have to audition. I had to be patient. I wasn’t the first choice,” she added.
The movie was Hathaway’s first foray into films with adult audience after working in family-friendly films like “The Princess Diaries” and “Ella Enchanted”. She had since gone on to star in movies like “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Interstellar”, as well as “Les Miserables” where she won her first Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress.
Prior to Hathaway, the studio reportedly wanted Rachel McAdams of “Mean Girls” and “The Notebook” fame for the said role. However, McAdams turned down the role in her effort to step away from mainstream projects.
