Ever since the pandemic worsened in March, many around the world have fallen
victim to the fast-spreading coronavirus. As physically fit as they are,
athletes are not exempt from it.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest superstar athlete to test positive
for COVID-19. The 35-year-old forward for Serie A club Juventus and Portugal
national team’s captain is now in isolation.
A statement from the Portuguese Football Federation also revealed that Ronaldo
is asymptomatic and following his test, the rest of the Portugal squad have
also undergone new tests on Tuesday. So far, no one else in the team tested
positive.
Due to this unexpected event, Ronaldo now has to sit out the UEFA Nations
League game against Sweden.
As per ESPN’s report, the football star will likely miss out on the Juventus’
Serie A game against Crotone this weekend, as well as next week’s UEFA
Champions League group stage opening game against Dynamo Kyiv.
Ronaldo is the third Portugal player to test positive. Last week, Jose Fonte
and Anthony Lopes also received positive test results.
