Jannine Weigel, the first artist to be signed under the record label RedRecords, will be debuting her first single under the label this month.
Set to be released on 18 September, “Passcode” is described as a euphoric dance-pop anthem that the 20-year-old singer says captures her personality perfectly – “fun and bubbly, but with a little bit of an edge.”
“I want to be able to inspire people out there. I feel like I’m proof that as long as you never give up, anyone can have a shot at achieving their dreams, no matter where they come from,” she added.
The song is produced by Grammy-nominated record producer Tommy Brown, who’s worked with the likes of Ariana Grande, Chris Brown and Fifth Harmony, and co-written by Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez.
Accompanying the song’s release will be a music video directed by Philip Rom Kulleh, which is shot and produced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Fans of TikTok influencers would be able to spot familiar faces in the video as well, as it features some of the biggest Thai and Malaysian influencers that are popular on the app.
Launched by AirAsia and Universal Music Group in early December last year, RedRecords aims to bring more recognition to A-pop or ASEAN pop.
Regarding Jannine signing with the label, RedRecords CEO Hassan Choudhury said, “With the ambition we have for RedRecords, along with the extensive global marketing resources at our disposal, Jannine was the obvious choice as our first signing.”
It won’t just be ASEAN who will be tuning in to “Passcode”, as it will also be released in the US through RedRecords’ partnership with Def Jam Recordings, whose artists include Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Alessia Cara.
