RM25,000 will be rewarded to first place, RM15,000 to second place and RM10,000 to third place. mm2 Entertainment Malaysia will also be selecting the three filmmakers separately for a feature director contract, giving them the opportunity to develop full-length feature films.

Director Quek Shio Chuan (“Guang”, Netflix’s “The Ghost Bride”), named as the Official Ambassador for the first Movie Makers Malaysia Short Film Competition, said in a press statement, “It is a great honour to be the official ambassador to promote this competition and to provide a platform for more local talents who love shooting to showcase their unlimited creativity.”

Aside from the competition, there will also be a series of webinars on filmmaking basics. Through these, budding filmmakers can learn topics such as The Importance of Scriptwriting and The Fundamentals of Directing.

This is mm2 Entertainment Malaysia’s inaugural edition of the competition in the country. Movie Makers was first introduced in 2015 in Singapore and was later held in 2017 in Hong Kong.
