Namewee is among the three Malaysia-born singers that are set to compete at this year’s Golden Melody Awards (GMA).
In an announcement of nominations that the organiser made, it was revealed that Penny Tai, Fish Leong, and Namewee have all made the list.
Singer-songwriter Penny Tai will be competing for Best Recording Package and Best Vocal Recording Album via her band Buddha Jump’s album, “BJ Shop”.
Meanwhile, Fish is nominated in the Best Female Vocalist (Mandarin) for her first album in seven years, “The Sun Also Rises”. It is noted that this will be the sixth time Fish is nominated in the category, and that the singer will be facing tough contenders that include GEM Tang and Faith Yang.
Namewee has also been nominated in the male counterpart of the said category, which sees him competing with the likes of Wakin Chau and Sodagreen’s Wu Tsing-feng. His song “Ghost Island”, featuring Dwagie, is also nominated in the Song of the Year category.
Namewee joked on his Facebook that he will eat seafood if he wins at the upcoming event. In the meantime, the singer-actor has been busy doing charity work across the nation. His most recent musical release was “I Shot You” featuring Japanese AV star Yua Mikami, which to date has more than 5 million views on YouTube.
He also posted photos of him on Instagram at the past GMA events he’s attended and thanked the awards show for nominating him again.
Originally scheduled to be held this 27 June, the 2020 Golden Melody Awards was postponed back in April to 3 October and will be held at the new Taipei Music Center.
