Sabahan DJ and emcee Yohan Charles Jayasuriya is bringing his love for Iron Man to a higher level, quite literally.
Yohan, who often cosplays as the Marvel superhero, will be attempting the never-before-done feat of scaling Mount Kinabalu while clad in a full Iron Man suit.
While he has climbed the mountain a number of times before, this will be his first time doing so in a superhero costume. The 39-year-old told Borneo Today that it’s a tough challenge but he will do his best to succeed in the mission.
He will be attempting the climb at the end of this month, on 29 and 30 June, accompanied by nine other climbers. Among them is veterinary surgeon Dr. Randolf Paza, whom Yohan credited as the originator of the project.
Dr. Randolf stated that the reason for them doing the climb in such a unique way is to promote the activity of climbing Mount Kinabalu, which has only resumed recently on 15 May after being halted for nearly two months when the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into force.
The group will also be raising funds and distributing donations to mountain guides who have been out of jobs following the mountain’s temporary closure since 18 March.
This is not the group’s first time lending helping a hand to the mountain guides, as they’ve also previously aided them after an earthquake with a moment magnitude of 6.0 struck Sabah on 5 June 2015.
As for Yohan, ever since getting the Iron Man suit about a year ago, the cosplayer has been putting it to good use by donning it while doing charity. In recent months, the ‘Iron Man’ has been spotted handing out food to the needy folks in his hometown of Penampang who were badly affected by the MCO.
